The Jungle Myna, like all other mynas is a member of the starling family, and so goes along with the common myna and Asiatic pied starling we find here in Powai, Mumbai. This individual was posing for me in Tivim, Goa, and its gorgeous blue irises are indications of it being from the South Indian subspecies, but ive also spotted quite a few in and around Aarey colony.
Its just amazing to see how specific animals can be to their habitat. The forests of Aarey are home to such beauties and yet you'd never find one in areas like Powai though the 5-10 km distance is barely a problem considering its a bird of flight. They present yet another reason to protect Aarey and its exceptional, exclusive, ecological niche.
