The Second half to our main reason for visiting Sewri, the Greater Flamingos. These birds are a lot taller compared to their Lesser counterparts, averaging 4-5 feet in height, with the tallest ones growing to upto 6 feet tall! But their height is not the only way to distinguish them. Their bills are longer, and not completely black, but only tipped with a black splotch. They show much less pink in their feathers and its usually restricted to their lower wing feathers.
This species comes under Least Concerned in the IUCN list, as it is the most widespread of the flamingo species, spanning over Africa, the Middle East, parts of Europe, and the Indian Subcontinent. However common they may be though, they were truly a sight to behold.
